We are delighted to welcome Arup, an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists, to our list of supporters for this year’s festival. Working across every aspect of the built environment, they help their clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as they strive to find a better way and shape a better world.
Here’s a few words of introduction from Arup…
At Arup we recognise that great design includes a responsibility to the future. We support clients across the world to become more sustainable, while investing in research that can improve our own industry’s environmental impact. We seek to create and add value to society.
Owned in trust for the benefit of our employees, we make clear choices about what is important to us. In the Midlands we actively recruit and each year we are delighted to bring in over 50 new graduates, degree apprentices and apprentices to build our workforce of the future. Last year, we raised nearly £20,000 for local charities, including £4,500 for schools, and we volunteered 11,000 hours to community engagement projects.
Arup’s presence in the Midlands stretches back to 1968 and our involvement can be seen in many of the most prominent schemes in the region. From the regeneration of Brindley Place, Snowhill and Eastside to Paradise, Icknield Port Loop and Langley. We have helped to develop a growth and infrastructure plan for UK Central supporting the provision of 77,000 jobs as well as creating sustainable assets for our region’s best universities.
Recently we have embraced the Midland’s position at the heart of the UK’s high-speed rail network compiling the hybrid Bill connecting Birmingham and the North and recently the design of Birmingham’s Interchange Station.
Our technical and management insight has contributed to the UK Autodrive project for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV), and we have helped to deliver world-class facilities for industrial clients such as JLR and the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC) at the University of Warwick.
Arup is delighted to sponsor Birmingham’s Design Festival 2019. We have been helping to shape Birmingham’s built environment for over 50 years; our creative spark and intellectual independence has been there from the very beginning. The festival’s truth theme this year to help creative industries become more transparent, helpful and genuine aligns perfectly with Arup’s values to act honestly and fairly in our dealings with clients, partners, suppliers and the communities we work.”
